About Me
My name is Paula Crosier,
owner of Feathered Nest Quilts.
I cannot remember a time when I wasn’t creating something. Though my
early days of sewing Barbie clothes are nothing to brag about, I was
drawn to the needle and thread at a young age. By the time I was in high
school I was sewing most of my clothes and, of course, all those dresses
for proms and dinner dances. Since I loved sewing so much I got my
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design and Retailing from Marist College in
New York.
Following graduation, my husband and I settled in Vermont to raise our
family. I began working for two antique shops turning vintage linens
into pillows and other decorative items for the home. It is there that
my interest in vintage linens, including antique quilts, was born.
Since then I have become a collector of old needlepoint, embroidery and
trims. In addition to my work in the antique shops, I also performed
free-lance seamstress work, designing and creating several wedding gowns
and other various projects.
After 12 years in the home décor sewing business I decided to apply my
25 years of sewing experience to quilting, and have been quilting –
mostly as a hobby – ever since. In 2006 we moved to Missouri where I
began quilting in earnest. Although I have taken a couple of formal
classes, my main source of education and motivation was and is my sister
Pam. Pam and her quilting friends, affectionately known as “The Quilt
Mafia”, welcomed me with open arms. With these wonderful women I was
introduced to shop hops and quilt retreats.
In 2008 I started Feathered Nest Quilts, a home-based business that
allows me to have the best of both worlds—creative work that I love, and
the flexibility to meet the needs of my family.
My husband Thom and I
live in Sedalia, Missouri with our 5 wonderful daughters.
